You're standing on Cheapside, one of the oldest streets in the City, in front of St Mary-le-Bow. Take a look up at that tower. It rises almost sixty-eight metres. Of all Christopher Wren's churches, only St Paul's and St Bride's are taller. Right at the top, a weathervane shaped like a winged dragon turns in the wind. Below it you'll spot a ring of twelve columns, and above them a crown of curving flying buttresses. Wren built the tower entirely in pale Portland stone, and the rest of the church in red brick.
