You're standing on the Plaats in The Hague, next to the bronze statue of Johan de Witt. Take a look up. He's shown full length, in seventeenth-century clothes, with a skullcap on his head and a cloak over his shoulders. In his left hand he holds a paper scroll against his chest. The statue alone is 3.4 metres tall, and it stands on a granite pedestal of almost three metres.
