You're standing on the Rapenburg canal in Leiden, at the SieboldHuis, number 19. This stately canal house was the home of Philipp Franz von Siebold. Between 1823 and 1829 he lived on Dejima, the Dutch trading post near Nagasaki in Japan. There he collected everything he could find about Japanese nature and culture.
