You're standing outside Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden, the Dutch museum of the history of science and medicine. Start with the building. This was once the convent of Saint Cecilia, dating from the early fifteenth century. After the Reformation it became a plague house and an asylum, and in the seventeenth century Leiden's academic hospital began here. A fitting home for a museum about medicine.
