You're standing at Museum De Lakenhal on the Oude Singel in Leiden. Look at the front of the building. Built in 1640, this was the cloth hall, where cloth was inspected. For years a roof covered the forecourt. During the latest renovation it was removed, so the façade looks the way it was meant to in 1640. Walk round to the Lammermarkt side and you'll see the new wing. The pattern in its brickwork is a nod to the weaving of cloth.
