You're standing on the Gulperberg hill above Gulpen, at the monument to Mary. Look up. The whole thing is about thirteen metres tall. A pedestal of roughly ten metres carries a statue of about three metres: a crowned Virgin Mary, without the infant Jesus, her hands spread in a gesture of blessing. The statue is made of white concrete and was designed by Maastricht sculptor Charles Vos. The pedestal is the work of Piet Gerrits.
