You're standing at Istanbul Modern, right on the shore of the Bosphorus in the Beyoğlu district. Start with the façade. It's made of three hundred grey aluminium panels, some curving outwards and some inwards. They catch the light and the reflections off the water. Architect Renzo Piano compared it to a fish leaping out of the water. He also called the whole building a flying vessel on the water. Piano, by the way, is one of the architects behind the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
