You're standing at Ħaġar Qim, one of the megalithic temples of Malta, on a ridge about two kilometres outside the village of Qrendi. These temples are around five thousand years old. They were built between roughly 3600 and 2500 BC. For a long time they were thought to be the oldest free-standing structures on Earth, until an even older site turned up in Turkey. Together with five other temple sites on Malta and Gozo, they're on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
