You're standing on Republic Street, in front of the Auberge de Provence. Behind this baroque façade is Malta's National Museum of Archaeology. The building itself has quite a past. It went up in 1571 for the Order of Saint John, the knights who built Valletta. It was designed by the Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar, who oversaw most of the city's important early buildings.
