You're standing at Kenwood House, a stately home on the northern edge of Hampstead Heath in London. Have a look at the entrance. That portico with its Ionic columns is the work of Scottish architect Robert Adam. In 1764 he was given a completely free hand by William Murray, later Earl of Mansfield and Lord Chief Justice at the time. Under all that elegant stucco, the brick house from the late seventeenth century is still standing.
