You're standing on Campo San Zaccaria, just a few hundred metres east of St Mark's Square. In front of you is the church of San Zaccaria, dedicated to Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist. Start with the façade. Down low it's still Gothic, but higher up you get round-arched windows and columns in early Renaissance style. That's because two architects worked on it: Antonio Gambello began it, and Mauro Codussi finished the top. Right at the summit stands the Redeemer, flanked by four angels. The Venice expert John Julius Norwich said this is the place to see where Venice first felt the breath of the Renaissance.
