You're standing at the Gallerie dell'Accademia, on the Grand Canal in the Dorsoduro district, right by the Accademia Bridge. Both the bridge and the vaporetto stop here are named after this museum. Take a look at the building. It's really three older buildings in one: the church of Santa Maria della Carità, the convent next to it and the Scuola della Carità. That scuola was the oldest of Venice's six great confraternities, and its building dates from 1343. The church façade was finished in 1441 by Bartolomeo Bon. Andrea Palladio worked on the convent from 1561, though it was never fully completed.
