You're standing at the Schaelsberg lime kiln, tucked away in the Schaelsberg woods near Oud-Valkenburg. Behind you rise two hills, the Schaelsberg and the Daolkesberg, on the edge of a wide plateau. And right next to the kiln runs the railway between Aachen and Maastricht. It's a quiet spot now, but this place was once all about fire.
