You're standing at the Karlstor in Munich, a medieval city gate at the western end of Neuhauser Straße. On one side starts the pedestrian zone of the old town. On the other lies Karlsplatz, which locals simply call Stachus. It has been one of the busiest spots in the city for centuries. The street here was once part of the salt road, the main east–west route through the old town.
