You're standing at the Basilica of San Simpliciano, one of the oldest churches in Milan. It's also the second-oldest known Christian church built in the shape of a Latin cross. Take a look at the façade. Above the doors you'll see arches. They're a clue that a portico once stood in front of the church, long since gone. The upper part was heavily reworked in 1870. Up there you'll spot two windows split by slim columns, a triple window above them, and a row of decorative arches.
