You're standing on Piazza San Nazaro in Brolo, in front of one of the oldest churches in Milan. This basilica dates back to the fourth century. But what you see straight ahead isn't really the church. It's an octagonal chapel, the Trivulzio Mausoleum. Bramantino started it in 1512 for the military commander Giangiacomo Trivulzio. A burial chapel like this would normally sit off to the side. Here it's awkwardly parked right in front of the façade, as if it's trying to hide the church.
