You're standing on Piazza San Lorenzo in Florence, in front of the Basilica of San Lorenzo. Notice anything about the front? It's bare, rough brick. That was never the plan. The Medici pope Leo the Tenth asked Michelangelo to design a façade. He made a large wooden model, which is now in the Casa Buonarroti, but the façade itself was never built.
