Mercato del Porcellino in Florence

You're standing at the Loggia del Mercato Nuovo, right in the heart of Florence and just a few steps from the Ponte Vecchio. Locals simply call it the Loggia del Porcellino, the loggia of the piglet. Why? We'll get to that. It's called the New Market because there used to be an Old Market too, roughly where Piazza della Repubblica is today.
