Spedale degli Innocenti in Florence

You're standing on Piazza della Santissima Annunziata, in front of the Ospedale degli Innocenti, the Hospital of the Innocents. Look at the long arcade along the east side of the square. This was Filippo Brunelleschi's very first building, by the same man who drew up a design for the cathedral dome. Many experts see this spot as the birthplace of Renaissance architecture.
