You're standing on Via Porta Rossa, in front of Palazzo Davanzati. It's the best preserved medieval home in Florence. Start with the sandstone façade. At street level there are three big portals, with three floors of windows above. Right at the top sits an open loggia on columns. That was added in the sixteenth century, replacing the battlements. It's the only real change to the original front. See if you can spot the Davanzati coat of arms up there too.
