You're standing on Piazzale Michelangelo, a wide terrace on a hill just south of Florence's old centre. First, walk over to the edge and take in the view. Below you runs the Arno, splitting the city in two. See the bridges? The one with little houses built on it is the Ponte Vecchio. Behind it rises the huge dome of the cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore. A little to the side is the tower of the Palazzo Vecchio, and further along you'll spot Santa Croce. Look closely and you can also pick out the Bargello and the eight-sided bell tower of the Badia Fiorentina.
