You're standing at Christ the King, or Cristo-Rei as the Portuguese call it, on the south bank of the Tagus in Almada. Take a look up. On top of a huge pedestal, Christ stands with his arms spread wide. He faces straight across the water towards Lisbon, as if he wants to embrace the whole city. Does that remind you of something? It should. The statue was inspired by Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.
