You're standing at Christ Church, one of the colleges of the University of Oxford. Look up at the gateway with the bell tower. That's Tom Tower, designed by Christopher Wren in 1681. Inside hangs the bell Great Tom. Every evening it rings 101 times at nine o'clock Oxford time, which is five past nine on everyone else's clock. One stroke for each of the college's original one hundred scholars, plus one more added in 1664.
