Pembroke College in Oxford

You're standing on Pembroke Square, outside Pembroke College, one of the colleges of the University of Oxford. Take a look at that pale, warm stone. It's local Cotswold limestone. The college used it in the seventeenth century to build its first courtyard, the Old Quad, bit by bit. Space was tight here. So tight, in fact, that the south side was built right on top of the old Oxford city wall.
