You're standing on Catte Street, right in the heart of Oxford, outside Hertford College. It's pronounced 'Hartford'. Turn around for a second: directly opposite is the main gate of the Bodleian Library. Now look up at the little bridge spanning New College Lane. That's the Bridge of Sighs, one of Oxford's best-known sights. The architect Thomas Graham Jackson finally got it built in 1913, after plenty of opposition. It links the college's old and new halves.
