You're standing on Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, Commerce Square. In Portuguese it's still usually called Terreiro do Paço, Palace Yard. The square opens onto the Tagus river and measures 175 by 175 metres. Have a look around. The buildings form a U, with galleries on the ground floor and two large towers at the ends.
