You're standing at the Sophiahof in The Hague, the house on Sophialaan that has been home to Museum Sophiahof since 2019. The Indisch Herinneringscentrum, a remembrance centre for the Dutch East Indies, is based here too. Start by taking in the building itself. It's a listed monument from 1858, built in an eclectic style, which means it mixes features from several architectural styles. Its first resident was Guillaume Louis Baud, a former governor-general of the Dutch East Indies and a former minister of the colonies. There's a certain irony in his house now telling the stories of the people who lived through colonial rule and everything that came after.
