You're standing at the Valkhof Museum in Nijmegen, on the Kelfkensbos, right at the edge of Valkhof park. Take a look at the building itself. Clean lines, glass and bright colours, set against the green of an old park. That contrast was intentional. Architect Ben van Berkel even had the big central staircase start outside, on the forecourt. Not everyone loved it: locals nicknamed the building The Swimming Pool. Queen Beatrix opened it in 1999.
