You're standing next to a bench. Not just any bench, though. It's a memorial, and even a listed national monument. This seat was built in 1925 in memory of Christine de Bosch Kemper. Take a good look at how it's put together. The seat itself is wooden, with an open-work backrest, and it rests on two sturdy brick piers. On three sides you're wrapped in low brick walls laid in geometric patterns. The side walls step up like stairs, and their fronts are covered in ceramic tiles. And then the cheeriest detail of all: colourful parrots perched on the corners.
