You're standing at Wawel Castle in Kraków, on top of Wawel Hill by the Vistula River. For centuries this was home to the kings of Poland, and the castle is a symbol of the Polish state. Take a look at the architecture. You can spot nearly every European style of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods here. Look for the towers too. The Hen's Foot Tower stands on three projecting buttresses that look like a chicken's foot. Along with the Danish Tower, it dates from the 14th century. That's also when the castle itself was built, though stone buildings stood here as early as the 10th or 11th century.
