It is named after the Saxons, who once lived in this area. From Lauwersmeer National Park you ride via Ezinge and Garnwerd to the city of Groningen, then through Drentsche Aa National Park, past the hunebeds (megalithic tombs) of Bronneger to Emmen and Coevorden. After that you follow the Vecht through Hardenberg and Ommen, passing Kasteel Eerde, and on through Ootmarsum and Denekamp to Enschede. It is part of the LF Ronde van Nederland. We know of 18 toilets, 14 water taps and one bike pump on the way.
