You're standing at the Prinsentuin, the Prince's Garden, tucked away in the heart of Groningen. It lies behind the Prinsenhof, a fifteenth-century building where the princes of Nassau stayed in the city from 1594 onwards. The garden itself was laid out in 1626 for Ernst Casimir of Nassau-Dietz and his wife Sophia Hedwig.
