Fort bij Kudelstaart in Aalsmeer

You're standing at the Fort bij Kudelstaart, close to the hamlet of Vrouwentroost. This fort is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, a ring of forts around the capital. Have a look at where it sits. Its job was to block two routes: the Kudelstaartseweg road and the navigable waters of the Westeinder lakes. Anyone approaching Amsterdam this way, by road or by boat, had to pass right here.
