You're standing at Staro Sajmište, the old Belgrade fairground, on the bank of the Sava in New Belgrade. Have a look around at the low, modernist pavilions. In 1937 the city built an exhibition centre here, hoping to draw international trade to Belgrade. Its showpiece was the tall central tower. Philips used it to send out some of the very first television broadcasts in Europe.
