You're standing at Belgrade Fortress, Beogradska tvrđava in Serbian. Walk to the edge and look down. Here, at the end of a high ridge, the Sava flows into the Danube, and you look out over the Great War Island. The fortress is made up of the old citadel, with an Upper and a Lower Town, and Kalemegdan Park. That name comes from two Turkish words: kale, fortress, and meydan, field.
