Puerta de Alcala in Madrid

You're standing at the Puerta de Alcalá, one of Madrid's most famous landmarks. This grand stone gate sits in the middle of the Plaza de la Independencia, Independence Square. Just a few metres away is the main entrance to the Retiro Park. Have a look around. Alcalá Street cuts right across the square, but it doesn't actually pass through the gate. The traffic simply flows around it.
