You're standing at Regensburg Cathedral, the Dom St. Peter. It's the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Regensburg and one of the most important Gothic churches in southern Germany. Look up at the two west towers. They're 105 metres high, but their spires are young. They were only completed in the nineteenth century, between 1859 and 1869. In 1872 the cathedral was finally complete. Work had started after a fire in 1273 destroyed the older, Romanesque church.
