You're standing at the Stone Bridge, the Steinerne Brücke of Regensburg. Together with the cathedral, it's the great emblem of the city. It spans the Danube, linking the Old Town with Stadtamhof on the far bank. It was probably built between 1135 and 1146, in just eleven years. An unusually hot, dry summer helped, because the river was running very low.
