You're standing at Exeter Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and the seat of the Bishop of Exeter. Take a look at the two massive square towers. They survive from the Norman church that stood here before. When the cathedral was later rebuilt in Gothic style, the builders simply kept them. Notice anything missing? There's no tower in the middle. That makes a big difference inside, and I'll come back to it.
