You're standing at Heeswijk Castle, an old moated castle in North Brabant. Around 1080 there was already a stronghold here on an artificial mound, a motte. Look at the main castle. The semicircular shape of the oldest part still gives that mound away. See the round towers on the corners? Then look at the outer bailey. Rows of brick alternate with rows of stone, so the façade looks striped. That part is sixteenth century, with stepped gables and cross windows. The big round tower, on the other hand, is a newcomer from the nineteenth century.
