You're standing at the Children's Monument, also called the Monument to the Lost Children, on the grounds of the National Monument Camp Vught. It commemorates the children's transports of the sixth and seventh of June, 1943. On those days more than a thousand Jewish children and their parents were taken from Camp Vught. They were told they were being moved to a special children's camp. By way of Camp Westerbork they were sent to Sobibór, an extermination camp in occupied Poland. There, they were murdered almost immediately.
