You're standing at Trier Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in Germany. First, take in the west front, with its four towers and a rounded apse in the middle. Most of it dates from the eleventh century, and it has been copied many times since. Now look up at the tallest tower. Above the clock is a Latin inscription: NESCITIS QVA HORA DOMINVS VENIET. It means: you do not know at what hour the Lord is coming.
