You're standing at Stedelijk Museum Breda, the city's own museum. First, take a look at the building itself. It's known as the Old Men's House, or De Beyerd, and it has almost eight hundred years of history. It began in 1246 as a guest house, a refuge for travellers and the sick. Later it became a home for old men, and after that a cultural centre. The historic façade was made in the seventeenth century by stonemason Laureys Drijffhout. The building has been a national monument since 1966.
