You're standing in Les Eyzies, in the Dordogne, at the foot of a tall cliff. Look up. Above the village, built right against the rock, is the National Museum of Prehistory, one of the most important museums of its kind. It's really two buildings in one. At the top sits the old Château de Tayac, a fortress from the eleventh century, remodelled in 1585 for Jean-Guy de Beynac. Below it, tucked along the cliff face, you'll spot the modern extension.
