You're standing at the Abri de la Madeleine, just outside the little village of Tursac in the Dordogne. Look at the rock face. It juts out a long way, creating a natural roof underneath. The French call a spot like this an abri sous-roche, a shelter under the rock. People lived here more than twenty thousand years ago, as the last ice age was coming to an end.
