You're standing at the Grotte de Font-de-Gaume, a cave just east of Les Eyzies in the Dordogne. Take a look at the cave mouth. People were already living right here around 25,000 BC, sheltering near the entrance. For thousands of years they kept coming back, at least now and then. After that, the place was forgotten. Only in the nineteenth century did locals start wandering in again. What they didn't realise was what covered the walls.
