Ondergrondse resten kasteel Middelburg in Alkmaar

You're standing by the Munnikenweg in Oudorp, just north of Alkmaar. Have a look around. It may not seem like much, but a real castle once stood here: Middelburg. The name means something like the middle stronghold. It probably comes from its position between two other fortified houses, the Nieuwburg near the Vroner Geest and the Torenburg in Alkmaar.
