You're standing at Fort Isabella, on the northern edge of Vught. This was once a fortress built to defend the city of 's-Hertogenbosch. It was named after Archduchess Isabella, Duchess of Brabant and daughter of King Philip II of Spain. Nobody knows exactly when building began. Probably around 1614, and it was certainly here by 1618.
