You're standing at Scupi, the remains of a Roman city a few kilometres outside the centre of Skopje. Take a look around. On one side rises Zajčev Rid, which means Rabbit Hill. On the other side flows the Vardar River. The Dardanians lived here first. Then, in the second century BC, the Romans set up a military camp on this spot.
