Aladzha Monastery Museum in Varna

You're standing at Aladzha Monastery, in the woods about seventeen kilometres north of Varna. The beach resort of Golden Sands is only three kilometres away, but this feels like another world. Take a look at that sheer rock face in front of you. It's a limestone cliff around twenty-five metres high. Monks carved their monastery straight into it, on several levels, one above the other.
